The sixth round of security talks between Israel and Lebanon will begin today in Rome, Italy's capital. During the two-day discussions, the parties will discuss key issues aimed at ensuring stability in the border region.
According to the Times of Israel, the talks will address a pilot program that envisions the deployment of Lebanese Armed Forces in areas from which the Israeli military will gradually withdraw. The program's main objective is to ensure that these areas are free of weapons and military infrastructure belonging to the Hezbollah organization.
The mechanism is also intended to strengthen security in the region, preserve the ceasefire, and prevent renewed tensions along the border.
Israel's delegation will be led by Yehiel Leiter, the country's ambassador to Washington. Joint decisions on the results achieved during the talks and next steps are expected to be adopted by the parties.
