Spanish writer Luis Goytisolo has died at the age of 91. According to an official statement issued by the Royal Academy, the writer passed away in the municipality of Vimbodí in Catalonia. The loss of the prominent literary figure is regarded as a significant loss for Spanish literature.
Literary career
Born in Barcelona in 1935, Goytisolo began his literary career from an early age. His 1958 novel The Edge earned him the Biblioteca Breve literary award. His Antagonía tetralogy, considered the pinnacle of his creative work, and his work These Same Words are regarded as classics of Spanish prose.
Press and state recognition
In addition to his literary work, Goytisolo was also active in journalism. He collaborated closely with several renowned Spanish publications, including El País. State-level recognition came in 2013, when the writer was awarded the National Prize for Spanish Literature.
