People’s Artist of Azerbaijan, prominent composer Tofig Bakikhanov was laid to rest in the Second Alley of Honor.
Jnews.az reports that the funeral ceremony was attended by state and government officials, representatives of the culture and arts sector, colleagues, family members, the deceased’s loved ones, and members of the public.
Earlier, a farewell ceremony for Tofig Bakikhanov took place at the Taza Pir Mosque. President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev and First Lady Mehriban Aliyeva sent wreaths to the ceremony.
Minister of Culture Adil Karimli, speaking at the farewell ceremony, described Tofig Bakikhanov’s passing as a heavy loss for Azerbaijani and world culture.
The minister noted that the composer formed an entire school through his work:
«He formed an entire school. His multifaceted work and the students he trained continue to live on. In every one of his works, one can feel his love for the Motherland and the people,» the minister said.
Member of the Milli Majlis and Academician Rafael Huseynov emphasized that Tofig Bakikhanov was a representative of a great era in Azerbaijani culture that will be difficult to replicate.
President of the Azerbaijan National Academy of Sciences Isa Habibbeyli noted that Tofig Bakikhanov worthily continued the mission of preserving and developing the rich legacy of the Bakikhanov family, while also maintaining close creative and friendly ties with ANAS.
The son of the deceased, Vahid Bakikhanov, stated that his father remained dedicated to his creative work and craft until the final days of his life. According to him, Tofig Bakikhanov paid special attention to ensuring that his own works and manuscripts were preserved in library archives.
It should be noted that People’s Artist of Azerbaijan Tofig Bakikhanov passed away on August 23 at the age of 96.
