Middle East, July 13 – During overnight and early morning hours, military confrontation between the US and Iran has entered a new, larger-scale phase.
US Central Command (CENTCOM) has disclosed that it struck strategic military targets in Iranian territory, citing international maritime security in the Strait of Hormuz as justification.
In 13 Iranian cities (Abadan, Ahvaz, Bandar Abbas, Bushehr and others), air defense systems, rocket installations, drone bases and military naval assets were targeted. The operation involved fighter jets, military vessels and specialized strike drones.
Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) announced that it had launched rocket and drone strikes against US military bases in Jordan, Bahrain and Kuwait. Alert signals were issued at US bases in the region.
Iranian official sources reported that one person was killed and four others were wounded as a result of the attacks.
Global reactions and diplomatic situation
A mutual understanding memorandum (MoU) reached between the parties in June is effectively considered void. US President Donald Trump stated that the agreement has been violated.
Experts note that while both sides attempt to avoid escalation, the military confrontation’s uncertain status «between war and peace» poses a serious threat to global oil and food supply chains.
The situation in the region remains extremely tense, and mutual strikes between the parties are expected to continue.
