Washington, July 13 – The US Central Command (CENTCOM) stated that naval drones were used in combat operations for the first time during an operation conducted in Iranian territory.
According to information released by CENTCOM, the operation targeted facilities in Iran that service submarines and military vessels. It is reported that three Corsair-type unmanned surface vessels struck targets at the port of Iran's Bandar Abbas military-naval base.
The command stated in its clarification that this marks the first use of naval drones by US military personnel in combat operations in history.
CENTCOM: The strikes carried out last night have weakened Iran's ability to continue attacks on commercial shipping.
Although the US side did not share additional information about the results of the operation, the incident once again demonstrated the growing role of unmanned maritime systems in modern military operations.
