Jerusalem, July 13 — Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu announced that diplomatic relations between Israel and Venezuela have been restored after a long break.
He noted that the humanitarian activities of the Israeli delegation sent to the country following a powerful earthquake that occurred in Venezuela last month have been highly appreciated. According to him, the mission not only supported the elimination of the consequences of the natural disaster, but also created the groundwork for normalizing relations between the two countries.
The Prime Minister emphasized that humanitarian cooperation was an important step in eliminating the long-standing diplomatic break between Israel and Venezuela.
Recall that Venezuela suspended diplomatic relations with Israel following military operations conducted in the Gaza Strip in 2008-2009. During that period, Hugo Chavez, who led the country, demonstrated a strong stance against Israel. In subsequent years, Venezuela became known as one of the countries that most harshly criticized Israel on international platforms.
