Israeli President Isaac Herzog, Foreign Minister Gideon Saar and Knesset Speaker Amir Ohana will participate via video link in an international conference being held today in Belgrade, Serbia's capital.
The conference is being organized jointly by the Serbian-American Friendship Congress and the Serbian Parliament. The event is dedicated to the theme "Partners in a Changing World: Central and Eastern Europe, America, Israel and the New Middle East."
U.S. Senator Ted Cruz, along with Congressional members Tracey Mann, Robert Aderholt and Cory Gottheimer, will also participate via video link in the conference.
According to Times of Israel, the event is viewed as the next step in strengthening relations between Israel and Serbia.
It should be noted that although Serbia is not a member of the European Union or NATO, it has become one of Israel's key partners in Europe in recent years.
Recall that in April of this year, Serbian President Aleksandar Vučić announced plans to jointly produce combat unmanned aerial vehicles with Israel to increase the country's defense capabilities and expand military exports.
At a meeting held in Jerusalem that same month, Israeli Foreign Minister Gideon Saar and Serbian Foreign Minister Marko Ćurić stated that they would take steps toward establishing a free trade agreement between the two countries and creating a new strategic dialogue mechanism.
