A drone attack on a civilian vessel near Ukraine's Odessa resulted in the death of an Azerbaijani ship captain.
The cargo ship Atlas Bey, owned by Turkey's Ocean Maritime company, came under fire. At the time of the incident, which occurred on the previous day, there were 11 Azerbaijani citizens on board. Immediately after the attack, all 10 crew members except the captain were evacuated and brought to the Odessa shore, and their condition was reported to be satisfactory.
Ilham Nasiroff, chairman of the Seafarers' Public Union, confirmed that the ship's captain Samad Nasrullayev died while performing his duties. The union's chairman expressed deep condolences to the deceased's family and relatives.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Azerbaijan also issued a statement on the matter. The ministry reported that the health condition of the rescued seafarers is being monitored, and appropriate measures have been taken regarding the search for the captain.
