An Israeli citizen in his 60s is missing following devastating floods in the border region between Nepal and Tibet. He was part of a tourist group traveling to Mount Kailash located in Tibet.
Jnews.az reports that at approximately 09:00 a.m. on Wednesday, a group of about 70 foreign tourists, including the missing Israeli, reached the border crossing. Contact with the tourist has been lost since then.
The Israeli Ministry of Foreign Affairs stated that the country's consulate in Beijing and the department for Israelis abroad are in constant contact with the missing person's family and are assisting in search operations.
The ministry also reported that about five other Israeli tourists are currently out of contact, though there is no confirmed information at this time that their disappearance is directly linked to the flooding.
The natural disaster has caused widespread destruction in the region. Roads have been blocked, infrastructure damaged, and severe damage caused to settlements.
As of Wednesday evening, the official death toll from floods in Nepal reached 460, with hundreds still reported missing. Authorities in China, responsible for administering Tibet, confirmed three deaths and reported hundreds missing.
Israeli Foreign Minister Gideon Sa'ar expressed solidarity with the people of Nepal and sent condolences to the families of the victims.
Rabbi Hezki Lifshitz, the Chabad emissary in Kathmandu, described what happened as an unprecedented catastrophe.
The Israeli Foreign Ministry recommends that Israeli citizens in Nepal exercise high caution, stay away from flooded areas, rivers, and unstable slopes. The ministry calls on citizens to strictly follow the instructions of local authorities and meteorological warnings.
