The US military launched extensive airstrikes against a series of military targets located in southern Iran tonight.
Main targets included military bases in Bandar Abbas, Kish Island, Goruk, Sirik and Chabahar. Iranian media reported that the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) base in Chabahar came under intensive attack.
According to US Central Command (CENTCOM), over 80 targets were struck during the operation. These included air defense systems, command and control centers, coastal radars, anti-ship missile infrastructure and small military vessels belonging to the IRGC.
Washington stated that the objective was to weaken Iran's ability to threaten international maritime commerce in the Strait of Hormuz.
Iran, for its part, disclosed that its air defense forces struck a US unmanned aerial vehicle in the country's south. Iran's Mehr news agency reported this, but no additional details about the incident were disclosed. The US has not yet confirmed the claim.
US President Donald Trump stated that the strikes on Iran were carried out in response to Tehran's attacks on international commercial vessels. He warned that if Iran continues similar actions, the US response will be more severe.
Experts note that the situation has heightened security risks in the region and may continue to impact international shipping in the Strait of Hormuz.
