The Israeli Ministry of Foreign Affairs has announced that there is currently no precise information regarding whether Israeli citizens were affected by the devastating earthquakes in northern Venezuela. According to local media reports, the ZAKA organization, which is involved in searching for victims of natural disasters, is preparing special groups to be sent to Venezuela. It should be noted that two powerful earthquakes occurred in quick succession in northern Venezuela. Numerous buildings are reported to have been destroyed in the country's capital, Caracas. Although the exact number of dead and injured is not yet known, it is noted that thousands of people are affected. According to the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS), the first earthquake registered a magnitude of 7.2 around 6:00 PM Eastern US time. One minute later, a second earthquake with a magnitude of 7.5 occurred in the same region. The epicenters of both earthquakes were located approximately 160 kilometers west of Caracas, near the city of Morón on the Caribbean coast. The epicenters were approximately 5 kilometers apart. Venezuela's acting president, Delcy Rodríguez, declared a state of emergency in the country and stated that several states were affected. She called on citizens for calm and solidarity.
These earthquakes were the strongest seismic tremors recorded in Venezuela since 1900. In that year, an earthquake with a magnitude of 7.7 occurred in the country. Approximately half an hour after the earthquakes in Venezuela, an earthquake with a magnitude of 6.9 was recorded off the eastern coast of Japan. Prior to this, an earthquake with a magnitude of 5.6 occurred in the US state of Northern California.
