Cairo, July 11 — A passenger train derailed in the Western Governorate, located in the Delta region of northern Egypt.

According to official information from the Egyptian National Railways Authority, the incident occurred at approximately 07:50 local time. Train No. 450, traveling on the Damanhur-Qallin-Tanta route, derailed when one of its cars left the tracks as it entered the "Mahalla Rouh" station near the city of Tanta.

Numerous ambulances, rescue services, special cranes, and technical teams were deployed to the scene of the accident.

The governor of the Western Governorate, Ala Abdel Moati, stated that 16 passengers were injured as a result of the accident.

"All the injuries are minor in nature (mainly cuts, bruises, and light trauma) and there is currently no threat to their lives."

The Egyptian National Railways Authority announced that a special technical commission has been established to investigate the causes of the derailment. Following the commission's findings, it was stated that necessary legal measures will be taken against those responsible for the incident.
