The Israeli government has approved the creation of a new center dedicated to preserving the legacy of former Prime Minister Golda Meir.
The new center will feature exhibitions on Golda Meir's life and political activities, and will also conduct research in the fields of women's leadership, public administration, and social policy.
According to reports, starting from 2026, the state budget will allocate 7 million shekels annually for the implementation of the project. The allocated funds will be directed toward the construction of the center and museum complex, as well as the financing of educational, scientific, and cultural programs.
Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu stated that Golda Meir played a crucial role in the development and strengthening of the State of Israel. According to him, the center will enable future generations to learn more closely about Golda Meir's life, her political legacy, and her special place in Israeli history.
It should be noted that Golda Meir (1898–1978) was Israel's fourth prime minister and one of the first women to hold this position in the country's history. She led the government from 1969 to 1974. Her political career began before the establishment of the state, and she later served as Minister of Labor and Minister of Foreign Affairs. Golda Meir is particularly remembered for leading the country during the Yom Kippur War in 1973. She is considered one of the important political figures who played a crucial role in Israel's state-building and the formation of its foreign policy. Although she resigned from the position of prime minister in 1974, she remained one of the most influential political leaders in Israeli history.
