The Deputy Commander of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps for Political Affairs, Yadolla Javani, stated that Iran's Supreme Leader Mojtaba Khamenei had approved the start of negotiations with the United States.
Initially, Iran rejected the American proposal to begin negotiations and continued military operations. But once the conditions put forward by Iran were accepted, the supreme leader gave the order to start talks — without concessions on matters of dignity.
Earlier, on June 21, the opposition outlet Iran International, citing the conservative agency Raja News, reported on the new Iranian Supreme Leader Mojtaba Khamenei's disagreement with the conduct of negotiations. It was claimed that the first round of these negotiations had taken place in Pakistan.
According to that publication, Khamenei expressed dissatisfaction both with the very fact that Iran's nuclear program was being discussed and with the failure of Iran's representatives to secure fulfillment of all conditions set by the ayatollahs.
