Egyptian citizen Dalia Ziada was forced to flee the country after publicly criticizing the actions of Hamas following October 7, 2023, Israel Hayom reported. She condemned the group's attack on Israel and supported the country's right to self-defense.
Following her public statements, legal proceedings were initiated against Ziada. Pro-government lawyers filed lawsuits alleging that she was an agent of Mossad. Additionally, her home was raided, though she was not there at the time. After this, Dalia Ziada was forced to leave her home, job, and family, fleeing Egypt.
Ideological differences and decision to stop wearing the hijab
Dalia Ziada is known as an advocate of liberal democracy who supports Israel's right to exist and opposes the Muslim Brotherhood movement, to which Hamas belongs. She claims that Egyptian President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi fights the Muslim Brotherhood solely because they pose an organized threat to his power, rather than for ideological reasons.
The Egyptian activist also shared that she decided to stop wearing the hijab, although she continues to consider herself a Muslim. According to her, this step was influenced by footage of the ceremony where Hamas handed over the remains of the Bibas family.
