The Population and Immigration Authority of Israel has published statistics on the most given names to newborns.
Jnews.az reports that data as of September 6, 2026, reflects both overall nationwide indicators and name choices specifically within the Jewish sector.
In the Jewish sector, the leader among boys has changed. The name Ariel rose to top spot, overtaking the name Lavi. Lavi is currently in fourth place. The top ten also included the names David, Rafael, Uri, Michael, Eliya, Eytan, Yehuda, and Ari.
Nationwide, taking all sectors into account, the name Muhammad once again ranked first among boys. Ariel rose from sixth to second place. The top ten also included Yosef, Adam, David, Omer, Rafael, Lavi, Michael, and Eytan.
Among girls, the situation remained more stable. The name Avigail maintained its leadership both in the overall nationwide rankings and among Jewish families. This name has been in first place in the Jewish sector for five years now.
In the Jewish sector, the most popular names after Avigail were Libi, Tamar, Yael, Lia, Ella, Ayla, Sarah, Noa, and Naya. Naya entered the top ten, moving ahead of Esther. Meanwhile, Libi overtook Tamar to rise to second place.
