Israeli Defense Minister Israel Katz has instructed the preparation of a plan to transfer the functions of civil law enforcement and ensuring public order in the West Bank from the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) to the police.
According to Katz, the prepared plan should envisage the transfer of responsibility for civil law enforcement and maintaining public order from the military to the police regarding Israeli citizens living in the West Bank.
It is reported that the Israeli Defense Minister gave this instruction against the backdrop of recent unrest in the area of Qusra village.
It should be noted that tension has risen in the village of Qusra in recent days against the backdrop of Israeli settlers besieging Palestinian families’ homes and restricting their movement. On August 12, a clash broke out between the IDF and settlers, and additional military forces were dispatched to the area following the incident.
