Israel's government approved a key personnel appointment at its weekly cabinet meeting. Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu recommended Colonel Ofir Levi, a reserve officer, for the position of deputy head of the National Security Council.

According to reports, Levi will serve in this position for a five-year term. The decision also provides for the possibility of extending his mandate by an additional five years in the future.

Ofir Levi's candidacy was put forward by Tsaxi Ben-Ezra, the head of the National Security Council.

Ben-Ezra himself was appointed to the position of head of the strategic body at the end of May this year.
