A video has circulated showing antisemitic remarks directed against Jewish caretaker Nejad Rassad at the historical Tomb of Esther and Mordechai located in the Iranian city of Hamadan.
The individual involved in the incident is reported to be Uzbek citizen Bakhtavar Gazakov. In the video, Gazakov directs abusive and antisemitic remarks at Rassad, while also claiming to have previously beaten a Jewish person in Uzbekistan.
Following the spread of the video, the incident sparked widespread outcry on social media. Gazakov later stated that he had deleted the video and apologized for what occurred.
The Tomb of Esther and Mordechai is an important religious and historical site for Iran’s Jewish community. The incident has renewed discussions regarding the security of the Jewish community and religious sites in the country.
