The British government lifted sanctions it had imposed on Azerbaijan's "Zangezur" oil tanker on July 7. The British government issued an official statement regarding this matter.
What was the basis for the sanctions?
The "Zangezur" tanker had previously been added to the British sanctions list. According to the allegations against the vessel, it was cited for activities including "assisting in destabilizing Ukraine, including threatening the country's territorial integrity, sovereignty and independence, and helping the Russian government generate revenue."
The European Union also lifted sanctions
This was not the first step taken by the UK. Earlier, the European Union Council, through a decision it adopted, lifted sanctions that had been applied to the "Zaqatala" vessel belonging to Azerbaijan Caspian Shipping Company (ASCO), as well as the "Shushi", "Karabakh", "Khankendi" and "Zangezur" vessels belonging to a joint venture of ASCO and the State Oil Company of Azerbaijan (SOCAR).
