Iran's military reportedly struck tankers passing through the Strait of Hormuz with missiles.

According to information provided by a U.S. official to Axios, late Wednesday night Iran fired missiles at at least two merchant vessels passing through the Strait of Hormuz. Both vessels sustained significant damage as a result of the strikes, but there were no deaths or injuries.

The Wall Street Journal reports that one of the targeted vessels was the Qatar-flagged LNG tanker Al-Rekayyat. According to the report, the missile struck the ship's engine section, causing a fire, but crew members were not harmed.

Hours later, Iran's state television confirmed that the country's forces had attacked at least one LNG tanker passing through the Strait of Hormuz. According to the official account, the tanker was targeted because it did not heed warnings from Iranian forces.

Earlier, Britain's Maritime Trade Operations Authority (UKMTO) reported that a tanker off the coast of Oman had been subjected to an attack with an unidentified weapon.

U.S. President Donald Trump told journalists in a statement that in any case, an agreement with Iran would be reached:

"An agreement with Iran will definitely be reached, or we will finish what we started."

According to him, the Tehran regime prefers an agreement.
