The administration of US President Donald Trump plans to phase the allocation of $400 million in aid to Ukraine until the end of the 2029 fiscal year. Reuters reported this citing informed sources.
According to the agency, the Pentagon submitted a plan to Congress in May envisioning the phased allocation of funds over several years. Under the document, the delivery of military equipment and other support measures will continue until the end of the fiscal year ending September 30, 2029.
However, despite two months passing since the letter was sent, the allocated funds have not yet been fully distributed and formalized with relevant contracts. This situation has caused dissatisfaction among both Democrats and some Republican congressmen. They believe that such a slow allocation of military aid to Ukraine amid the ongoing war is unacceptable.
According to the information, the $400 million will be directed toward purchasing equipment for the Ukrainian Armed Forces, training military personnel, financing various services, and strengthening the army's combat capability.
Today, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky will meet with US President Donald Trump at the White House. The parties are expected to discuss the urgent strengthening of Ukraine's air defense capabilities, as well as cooperation in the joint production of unmanned aerial vehicles. Following this, V. Zelensky is scheduled to meet with members of the US Senate.
Under US law, the president is obliged to ensure the use of funds approved by Congress and cannot block these funds for political purposes by his own decision. For this reason, the slow implementation of the aid program is already being criticized by lawmakers in Washington.
