The US Department of Defense (Pentagon) has updated its official database on casualties during the war with Iran. According to the updated statistics, 18 US service members have been killed and 624 have sustained various injuries since the beginning of the conflict.
According to the information, the Pentagon has also made changes to its casualty tracking system. A separate category called «Overseas operations» has been created for incidents occurring after July 7, and some deaths and injuries following that date have begun to be recorded in this section. For this reason, certain discrepancies have emerged between the previous official statistics and the new data.
International media and military experts state that the new classification has raised questions regarding the presentation of casualties during the war. It is said that dividing casualties into different categories makes it difficult to assess the true human cost of the conflict. The Pentagon, however, emphasizes that the changes are solely related to the reorganization of statistical tracking.
It should be noted that although the intensity of combat operations between the US and Iran has decreased in recent weeks, tension between the parties continues. While Washington and Tehran are trying to keep diplomatic channels open, both sides state that the risk of possible escalation remains high.
