The Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs has reacted sharply to the vandalism committed against the "Mother Armenia" monument in the city of Gyumri. Ministry spokesperson Maria Zakharova described the incident as an attack directed against shared historical heritage.
At a briefing where she commented on the incident that took place in Gyumri on June 10, Zakharova stated that Moscow had already sent a protest note to Yerevan. She stressed that Russia expects a fair investigation to be conducted and that those responsible be held accountable.
The Russian side hopes that Armenia will treat this situation seriously and take appropriate measures, as such acts could damage the historical and cultural ties between the two countries.
