Switzerland supports the process of normalizing relations between Azerbaijan and Armenia and is ready to assist in negotiations, Swiss Foreign Minister and OSCE Chairperson-in-Office Ignazio Cassis said at a joint briefing with Azerbaijani Foreign Minister Jeyhun Bayramov in Baku.
According to Cassis, nearly a year after the initialing of the peace agreement, a real opportunity to achieve long-term peace in the region has emerged.
Switzerland consistently supports the establishment of peace between Azerbaijan and Armenia. We are proud that Switzerland was able to make even a small contribution to advancing this process. I encourage my colleague to continue the efforts necessary to sign and implement the agreement.
The Swiss side confirmed its readiness to facilitate the negotiation process if it is useful and requested by the participants in the conflict themselves.
The Swiss Foreign Minister also noted that he was pleased to hear Jeyhun Bayramov's assessments of the situation surrounding the peace process, emphasizing that the normalization of relations will be an important step toward reconciling the peoples of both countries and strengthening stability in the South Caucasus.
