A car carrying a military officer and his wife exploded in Saint Petersburg, Russia. The blast killed the officer at the scene and left his wife hospitalized.
Jnews.az reports that the incident occurred on the morning of August 27 on the Kolpinskoye Highway in the Slavyanka area.
According to Fontanka, the individual driving the vehicle was a lieutenant colonel. As the couple began driving away from their home, an improvised explosive device inside the car reportedly detonated.
The officer died at the scene as a result of the explosion. His wife was rushed to the hospital with severe injuries, where doctors are working to save her life.
The Investigative Committee of Russia has opened a criminal case regarding the incident. The circumstances and cause of the blast are under investigation. Official agencies have not yet issued a final statement on the cause of the explosion.
