The European Union has officially joined the US campaign aimed at increasing economic pressure on Iran.

Jnews.az reports that this was announced by US Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent. He described this step by his European partners as a "decisive and timely step."

According to Bessent, Washington and its allies intend to prevent Iran from using the global financial system to fund its nuclear program, weapons projects, and the activities of proxy terrorist groups.

"The world is sending a clear signal to the Iranian regime: we will not stop until all remaining financial channels are cut off," Bessent wrote on social network X.

The campaign, titled "Economic Outcast," was officially launched on August 24. This campaign involves the introduction of restrictive measures against countries that maintain trade ties with Tehran. The US Department of the Treasury presented the campaign as a set of measures aimed at severing Iran’s global financial ties.

As part of the implementation of the new strategy, the US Department of the Treasury has expanded the sanctions list. It includes 60 organizations, individuals, and vessels linked to the Iranian economy.
