A disaster simulation center in the Chinese city of Hangzhou is conducting special training to increase public readiness for typhoons and floods. The project aims to prepare for the increasing frequency and intensity of extreme weather events in the country due to climate change.

During the training, participants engage in simulations that reflect conditions of winds reaching 165 kilometers per hour, heavy rainfall, and flash floods. Hundreds of tons of water are used to recreate flood events in mountainous areas, while flooded streets and other emergency situations are simulated in urban environments.

According to the center's data, more than 160,000 people have received training there since it began operations in May 2025. Over the next three years, there are plans to establish five more similar centers in various regions of the country. In addition to typhoons and floods, the new centers will also conduct simulations for other natural disasters, such as fires and earthquakes.

Experts state that climate change is causing destructive weather events to occur more frequently in China. For this reason, the government plans to expand the network of such training centers to increase the level of public preparedness for emergency situations.
