The Azerbaijan Metrology Institute (AzMI) has launched a special internet platform broadcasting the country’s national standard time – UTC (AZ) in real time.

Jnews.az reports that the new platform was created with the support of the State Agency for Antimonopoly and Consumer Market Control.

The UTC (AZ) time standard, approved in 2023 by the International Bureau of Weights and Measures (BIPM), is intended for use in various fields. The platform can be used by the banking and financial sector, telecommunications companies, energy and transport enterprises, television and radio broadcasting entities, as well as organizations operating in information security and scientific research fields.

A reliable time source is of great importance in terms of accurate financial transactions, synchronization of navigation systems, and stable operation of network infrastructure.

Azerbaijan is among the countries participating in the formation of Coordinated Universal Time (UTC) worldwide. Data obtained from cesium atomic clocks installed in AzMI’s Time, Frequency, and Microwave Measurements Laboratory are regularly sent to the International Bureau of Weights and Measures.

Comparing the readings of local atomic clocks with satellite systems enables Azerbaijan to contribute to the formation of the global time system and allows international verification of the country’s national standard time.
