On June 22, President of the Republic of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev and President of Turkmenistan Serdar Berdimuhamedov took part in an online ceremony marking the gifting of the oil tanker «Dostlug». This symbolic act strengthened relations between the two countries.
The tanker «Dostlug», which translates as «Friendship», was designed and built at the Baku Shipyard. Its specifications include an overall length of 141 metres, a beam of 16.9 metres, and a draught of 4.54 metres.
The construction of a 7,875-tonne vessel in Azerbaijan is a significant event. It not only attests to the progress of the domestic shipbuilding industry, but also demonstrates the Baku Shipyard’s capacity to carry out technically complex and large-scale projects, fostering the development of friendly ties between Baku and Ashgabat.
To date, the Baku Shipyard has completed 14 shipbuilding projects and more than 170 repair projects. The yard’s current order portfolio comprises 17 vessels, of which 11 are under construction and 6 are at the design stage.
