US President Donald Trump has announced that a meeting with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu at the White House could take place next week. He stated that the meeting would occur after the NATO summit.
Trump discussed this matter in an interview with Axios.
The US leader emphasized that relations between Washington and Tel Aviv are at a high level, noting that he works closely with Netanyahu.
«We have very good relations. Netanyahu knows who the main decision-maker is here.»
During the interview, the US President also touched on issues related to Iran. He said he watched the funeral ceremony of Iran’s former Supreme Leader Ayatollah Khamenei and drew attention to the participation of the country’s leadership in the ceremony.
«Everyone was there. We could have destroyed them all with one strike. But we won’t do it, because then there would be no one left to negotiate with.»
The President also commented on the emotional reactions of people who participated in the funeral ceremony, saying that he did not expect Iranians to mourn Khamenei’s death.
«I thought the population hated him. Perhaps these were fake tears.»
Trump’s statements coincide with a period when US-Israeli relations and Washington’s Iran policy continue to be discussed.
