Prominent US journalist and media personality Tucker Carlson has announced a complete break with Donald Trump and the Republican Party, declaring his intention to found a new political party.
According to reports, the decision — one that could shift the political balance in Washington — was triggered by the US military operation against Iran. Carlson sharply criticised the White House's foreign policy, arguing that there is currently no genuine political competition in the country.
The former television host levelled a blunt indictment at the US governance system, stressing that the Democratic and Republican parties move in lockstep on strategic issues such as foreign policy and finance:
"This is no longer a democracy. This is a one-party system that presents itself as a democracy, and this chain must be broken."
What is the goal of the new party?
According to Carlson, the new political force will focus directly on the domestic problems and interests of American citizens rather than on foreign conflicts and global projects. He also noted that he does not intend to enter active politics himself or put his name forward as a candidate in elections, preferring to remain the movement's ideological leader.
Trump's sharp reaction: "He is crazy"
Relations between Carlson — who openly targeted the US administration's actions on Iran — and Trump have broken down completely. Donald Trump responded to his former ally's statements in his characteristic style.
The president called Carlson "crazy," claiming he has still not recovered since being fired from Fox News.
Experts believe Carlson's move could cause a serious split among right-wing voters and deal a significant blow to the traditional two-party system in the United States.
