Major General Abbasali Novruzov, former commander of the Border Troops, has died at the age of 89. It is reported that he will be buried at the Military Memorial Cemetery on August 17.

Abbasali Ramazan oglu Novruzov was born in Baku in 1937. He served in the USSR Border Troops for many years and devoted a total of 57 years of his life to border security.

Following the restoration of Azerbaijan's independence, Novruzov closely participated in the establishment of the country's Border Troops.

On April 8, 1994, by order of President Heydar Aliyev, Abbasali Novruzov was appointed commander of the Border Troops of the Ministry of National Security of the Republic of Azerbaijan. At the same time, he served as Deputy Minister of National Security. Novruzov led the Border Troops until 2001.

During his tenure, efforts were undertaken to organize Azerbaijan's Border Troops, establish border protection systems, and train professional border guard personnel.

In 2017, by decree of President Ilham Aliyev, Abbasali Novruzov was awarded the "Shohrat" (Glory) Order for his long-term and meritorious service in Azerbaijan's special service bodies.
