A magnitude 5.3 earthquake has been recorded off the coast of the Datça district in Turkey's Muğla province.
According to information released by Turkey's Disaster and Emergency Management Authority (AFAD), the tremors, which originated in the Mediterranean Sea at a depth of 19 kilometres, were clearly felt in Datça and several other coastal areas of Muğla. The epicentre was located approximately 137 kilometres offshore in open sea, which helped prevent potential structural damage.
Based on initial assessments carried out by local authorities, no damage or casualties have been reported as a result of the event.
The situation in the region is currently reported to be stable, with relevant agencies continuing to monitor developments.
