A planned terrorist attack against a high-ranking security official in the Russian capital, Moscow, has been thwarted.
The Russian Federal Security Service (FSB) announced the arrest of a 30-year-old Russian woman. According to the agency, the woman communicated with representatives of Ukrainian special services via Telegram and WhatsApp, agreeing to carry out tasks directed against Russia. Allegedly, she was promised permanent residency in one of the European Union countries in return.
The FSB states that the woman had previously traveled to Ukraine via Turkey and Moldova. According to the information, she underwent training there for sabotage and terrorist operations.
The woman later returned to Russia, retrieved an explosive device that had been hidden in Samara, and traveled to Moscow. According to the FSB's claims, she was apprehended while attempting to plant the explosive device under the vehicle of a security official.
A criminal case has been opened regarding the attempted terrorist attack and the illegal trafficking of explosives. The court has ordered the suspect to be held in pre-trial detention. Investigative authorities are also considering opening a criminal case on charges of high treason.
The FSB stated that all individuals collaborating with foreign special services acting against Russia will be identified and held accountable in accordance with the law.
