The Italian capital, Rome, will host a meeting of the Global Alliance dedicated to the two-state solution for the Israeli-Palestinian conflict on July 28-29.
Italian Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Antonio Tajani announced this during his address to parliament regarding the outcomes of the recent NATO summit.
According to the minister, he will co-chair the meeting alongside the Foreign Minister of Saudi Arabia. Tajani stated that the primary goal of the gathering is to provide new momentum for the implementation of the New York Declaration signed last year.
He noted that the meeting will place special emphasis on interfaith dialogue. Tajani stressed that the development of dialogue between various religious communities is of great importance for ensuring lasting peace in the Middle East.
The Italian Foreign Minister also touched upon the situation in Lebanon, stating that the next round of international talks regarding that country will be held in Rome on August 4. He recalled that a high-level meeting dedicated to the implementation of an agreement reached between the Israeli and Lebanese governments was held in the Italian capital last week.
Antonio Tajani described this result as the product of long-term and consistent diplomatic efforts, emphasizing that Italy is one of the leading countries promoting dialogue in the region.
In his speech, the minister also addressed the renewed tension in the Persian Gulf. He stated that the Strait of Hormuz must remain open and unobstructed for international shipping, and maritime transport must be carried out freely. Tajani added that Italy will continue to contribute to international efforts aimed at maintaining stability in the region and ensuring the security of maritime transport.
