US Secretary of State Marco Rubio has named Iran as the primary force destabilizing the Middle East.
He stated that Washington is in intensive contact with Saudi Arabian officials regarding potential attacks by the Houthi group operating in Yemen on commercial vessels passing through the strategically important Bab el-Mandeb Strait in the Red Sea.
In a statement to journalists, M. Rubio said that discussions have been held with Saudi Arabia several times over the past week regarding this threat. According to him, this is not a new threat, but a serious risk that has manifested itself before.
The US Secretary of State noted that Iran is at the center of the issue.
