Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan stated that the TRIPP project, known as the "Trump route," will pass through the Syunik region in southern Armenia and that the railway line will follow the route that existed during the Soviet era.
According to Pashinyan, alongside restoring Armenia's direct railway link with Azerbaijan, the project could also ensure the country's integration into the international railway network, Jnews.az reports.
According to the report, the railway connection passing through Azerbaijani territory under TRIPP will expand Armenia's ties with Russia and Central Asia. In this direction, Armenia's access to the regional transport network is expected to increase.
Pashinyan also stated that the project would create economic opportunities for Iran. According to him, the implementation of TRIPP will make it possible to establish a railway connection between the Persian Gulf and the Black Sea, which could create conditions for expanding trade and economic ties between Armenia and Iran.
Pashinyan had previously stated that the railway to be built under TRIPP will follow the route of the railway line that existed during the Soviet era. According to him, laying a new railway line in a different direction is not realistic.
The TRIPP project is envisaged under the Washington Joint Declaration signed between Azerbaijan, Armenia, and the United States in August 2025. The project reportedly aims to expand regional transport links through Armenian territory.
