Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has called on China to exert influence on his Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin to prevent a potential new large-scale escalation.
Jnews.az reports that Zelensky made the statement during his address to the nation on Ukraine's Independence Day.
The Ukrainian leader stated that Beijing must use its influence over Russia to protect both China and the world from the threat of a new large-scale escalation.
Zelensky emphasized that China should not limit its international leadership ambitions solely to the economic and technological spheres. According to him, Beijing must clearly demonstrate that no one in the world can threaten other countries and the entire planet with nuclear weapons.
“China must no longer remain silent. When someone appears in sailor attire and a peaked cap talking about a nuclear strike, China must react to this and cool Putin down,” Zelensky said.
The Ukrainian President also noted that if Russia is not stopped in time, Vladimir Putin could start a new war beyond Ukraine. He urged the international community to provide Ukraine with the necessary support to stop Russia.
