The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) announced that Sabhi Sami Mahmud Shahata, one of Hamas’s platoon commanders, was killed during a military operation conducted in the Nuseirat area of the Gaza Strip.
According to information released by military officials, Shahata directly participated in the attacks organized against Israel on October 7, 2023. Additionally, it was noted that he played a role in transporting individuals taken hostage during those attacks and in the subsequent transfer of released hostages to the International Committee of the Red Cross.
The IDF’s statement notes that the strike was carried out because Shahata had been planning new attacks against Israeli military personnel and civilians in recent days and posed a threat. According to the army, the commander continued his active participation in Hamas‘s military activities.
