The cargo ship Volga 4007, carrying three citizens of Azerbaijan, was attacked by unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) in the Black Sea, according to Ilham Nasirov, chairman of the "Support to Azerbaijani Seafarers" Public Association.
Circumstances of the incident
The incident occurred on August 20, 2026. According to available information, the cargo vessel, owned by Reka Shipping and flying the flag of the Cook Islands, was attacked while departing the port of Novorossiysk. The ship was hit by four consecutive drone strikes.
A total of 13 crew members were on board the Volga 4007, including 10 citizens of India and three citizens of Azerbaijan.
Condition of the crew
Evacuation of personnel from the vessel began immediately following the drone attack. Details regarding casualties among the seafarers and the extent of damage to the cargo ship are currently being clarified.
