In January-June 2026, 533 road traffic accidents were registered in Azerbaijan.

According to the State Statistics Committee, this figure is 7.6% less compared to the same period of last year.

As a result of road traffic accidents occurring during the reporting period, 285 people lost their lives, and 404 people received bodily injuries of varying degrees.

According to statistics, nighttime accounted for the largest share of accidents by time of occurrence. Thus, 44.3% of road traffic accidents were recorded at night, 38.6% during the day, and 17.1% at twilight.

In the breakdown of events by days of the week, it was determined that 34.3% of accidents occurred on Saturdays and Sundays.

The main part of road traffic accidents – 83.7% – was recorded in residential areas.

A decrease in fatalities and injuries was also observed in these areas. Thus, in the first half of 2026, the number of people who died as a result of road accidents in residential areas decreased by 9.9% compared to the same period last year, totaling 201 people.

At the same time, the number of people injured to varying degrees in residential areas decreased by 19.7% to 379 people.

Thus, in the first six months of 2026, a decrease was recorded in the country in both the total number of road traffic accidents and the number of people killed and injured as a result of accidents in residential areas compared to the same period last year.
