Well-known Azerbaijani singer Nazim Pishyari («Faytonchu Nazim») was a guest on Fariz Ashurov’s show «Po dusham» («Heart-to-Heart Talk»).
In his interview, the singer spoke about how his nickname «Faytonchu» came about, the past of Azerbaijani music, Baku’s multinational environment, his performances in Israel, the friendly relations between the Azerbaijani and Jewish peoples, as well as his new «Latinos» music project.
Nazim Pishyari stated that the name «Faytonchu» was given to him by the audience in 1999 after the song of the same name, written by Rafael Dadashov, which he performed.
«‘Faytonchu’ became my business card, a kind of passport for me,» said the singer.
Speaking about Baku’s multinational environment in the past, he emphasized that representatives of various peoples lived in the same courtyards, celebrated holidays together, and gathered around the same table:
“This was not just living together. It was friendship and mutual respect.”
The singer also noted the importance of preserving multiculturalism in Azerbaijani society:
“Multiculturalism is a very delicate and valuable asset. Our duty is to protect this value created by our ancestors over centuries and pass it on to future generations.”
Speaking about his activities in Israel, Nazim Pishyari stated that he has performed in concerts in that country many times and has many friends there. Sending greetings to Azerbaijanis and Jewish friends living in Israel, he said that the friendship between the Azerbaijani and Jewish peoples has ancient roots.
Touching upon his new “Latinos” project, the singer noted that this music is not just a genre:
“Latino is not just a music genre, it is a mood.”
Nazim Pishyari also revealed that Azerbaijani songs were rearranged in a Latin style, and songs in six languages are featured in the repertoire of the “Latinos” group.
According to the singer, one of the main goals of “Latinos” is to present a different, colorful, and energetic musical atmosphere to the Azerbaijani audience.
