Shipowners will not resume passage through the Strait of Hormuz for several more weeks. They are waiting to be convinced that the agreement between the US and Iran has a "real character".

This was announced on June 16 by Jetaro Tamura, Chief Executive Officer of the Japanese shipping company Mitsui OSK Lines, in an interview with the Financial Times.

It's not just an ordinary agreement between countries that should come into force. It must become significant and reflect the real situation in the Strait of Hormuz so that shipping companies can feel comfortable passing through it.

Earlier, US President Donald Trump announced that the text of the memorandum of understanding with Iran would be published after the document is signed by both sides in Switzerland. He also promised that the Strait of Hormuz would be fully open on the same day. The official signing ceremony is scheduled for Friday, June 19.

Shipping companies are exercising caution, despite politicians' statements, awaiting actual confirmation of safe passage through the strategically important strait.
