Negotiations are underway between Israel and Lebanon on a new plan mediated by the United States. The plan involves the transfer of certain territories seized by Israeli forces during the conflict with Hezbollah to the control of the Lebanese army.
According to Reuters sources, the proposed agreement has several key conditions. Lebanese military units deployed to these areas must be trained by the US, and their non-affiliation with Hezbollah must be confirmed.
At the same time, the plan also includes maintaining an Israeli military presence in the buffer zone created along the Israel-Lebanon border.
At this stage of the talks in Washington, the initiative is being viewed as a pilot project. A high-ranking official from Lebanese security agencies confirmed that consultations are ongoing. He noted that the timing and conditions of a possible withdrawal of forces are central to the discussions.
A final decision on the potential agreement is expected after the talks, which are anticipated to conclude on Friday evening.
