Coordinated actions by the authorities of Israel, the US, and Lebanon have confronted the organization «Hezbollah» with unprecedented financial difficulties. «The New York Times» reports that due to the resulting crisis, the organization has been forced to stop making payments to a portion of its supporters.
Israeli strikes on branches of the «Al Qard Al Hassan» bank belonging to «Hezbollah», currency exchange offices, and other financial assets played an important role in restricting financial opportunities. At the same time, the channels through which the organization received financial funds from Iran have also been cut off.
Following the overthrow of Bashar al-Assad’s government, the operation of the overland financial route through Syria was disrupted. The delivery of funds by air was restricted after the Beirut leadership suspended flights from Tehran and banned the organization’s employees from entering the airport.
In parallel, pressure on the Central Bank of Lebanon has also intensified. The new head of the institution, Harid Said, removed a number of high-ranking officials suspected of ties to «Hezbollah» from their posts.
The Central Bank leadership has also tightened anti-money laundering measures and control over cash circulation in the country. All these steps taken have significantly narrowed «Hezbollah’s» financial capabilities, depriving the organization of the ability to support its supporters at the previous level.
