The Israeli Police have decided not to proceed with the purchase of electric vehicles manufactured by the Chinese company BYD. The main reason for this decision is concerns related to information security, as reported by the publication "Calcalist".
Despite the cancellation of further purchases, several dozen BYD electric vehicles acquired last year are likely to remain in operation within the police fleet.
Thus, Israel is expanding the list of governmental and defense structures that refuse to use Chinese electric vehicles. Just a week ago, a similar decision to withdraw such vehicles from its fleet was announced by the major defense concern "Elbit Maarahot".
Previously, similar measures were taken by the Israel Defense Forces (IDF), the Ministry of Defense, and also the "Aviation Industry" concern, which also refused products from Chinese automakers.
According to "Calcalist", the management of the Israeli Electric Company ("Hevrat Hashmal") and the Israeli Water Company ("Mekorot") are currently also considering the possibility of refusing to use Chinese vehicles in their fleets.
