Israel's men's marathon team won the gold medal at the European Athletics Championships held in Birmingham, Great Britain.
The Israeli team took first place in the competition based on the combined time of its top three runners, finishing in 6 hours 28 minutes 37 seconds. Germany finished second with a time of 6:29:03, while France took third place with 6:32:12. Israel finished 26 seconds ahead of Germany.
One of Israel's leading athletes, Gashau Ayale, won the bronze medal in the individual event with a time of 2 hours 9 minutes 21 seconds. He finished just 10 seconds behind race winner Amanal Petros of Germany. Petros secured the gold medal with a time of 2:09:11, setting a championship record.
Another Israeli representative, Tadesse Getahon, finished fifth with a time of 2:09:31, while Haimro Alame took eighth place. These performances contributed significantly to Israel becoming European champion in the team standings.
With this result, the Israeli team won the gold medal in the men's team marathon at the European Championships for the third time. The country had previously achieved this success in Munich in 2022 and in Brussels-Leuven in 2025. Gashau Ayale was part of the Israeli team in all three victories.
Thus, at the championships in Birmingham, Israel secured both the men's team marathon gold medal and an individual bronze medal through Gashau Ayale.
