Iran’s judiciary has referred criminal cases involving opposition-supporting citizens to the Tehran Revolutionary Court. The individuals are accused of maintaining ties with Israel, attempting to destabilize the country, and preparing a “pro-Israeli coup.” The defendants could face the harshest punishment — the death penalty. This was reported by Iran International.
According to the report, the large-scale legal proceedings center on Crown Prince Reza Pahlavi, as well as approximately 300 journalists and staff members of opposition media outlets, including Iran International and Manoto.
According to Asghar Jahangir, spokesperson for Iran’s judiciary, the accused have been charged with treason, “cooperation with hostile states,” undermining the country’s sovereignty, conducting espionage activities on behalf of foreign intelligence services, and serious religious offenses, including moharebeh (“waging war against God”) and “corruption on earth.”
In addition, Iranian authorities accuse opposition media organizations of acting as propaganda tools during the recent confrontations that official Tehran has described as the “12-day war” and the “40-day war.”
According to experts, the mass charges are intended to create an atmosphere of fear within society, silence dissenting voices, and weaken the legitimacy of domestic protests by portraying them as the result of foreign interference.
