The Central Bank of Azerbaijan (CBA) is preparing to release updated 100-manat banknotes into circulation on July 15 of the current year.
The information was confirmed by CBA Director General Rashad Mammadov. He stated that the Central Bank will inform the public in advance about any changes related to the issuance of new or updated banknotes through its official website and social media accounts.
It is worth recalling that the last time updated 50-manat banknotes were released into circulation was in December of last year.
Combating counterfeiting and security
Rashad Mammadov also shed light on the situation regarding the counterfeiting of the national currency. According to him, analyses show that the majority of counterfeit banknotes are produced using primitive methods — colour photocopiers or scanners. Such counterfeit notes are easily detected by banking equipment and bank staff.
The Director General noted that Azerbaijan's national banknotes feature high technical specifications and reliable security elements. For this reason, the level of currency counterfeiting in the country is extremely low compared to leading world currencies and the national currencies of neighbouring states.
